Naoki Shida was born in Yamagata, Japan. After completing his B.S. at Yokohama National University, he perused his Ph.D research at Tokyo Institute of Technology under the supervision of Prof. Shinsuke Inagi with DC1 research fellowship from JSPS. His Ph.D thesis is on the gradient modification of material-surface by means of bipolar electrochemistry, and received Ph.D in 2016. During his time as a Ph.D student, he visited the group of Prof. Dwight S. Seferos at University of Toronto to explore the redox chemistry of chalcogenophene-containing small molecules and polymers.  He then worked as a postdoctoral scholar (Research Fellowship for Young Scientists, JSPS-PD) both at Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology for Prof. Kazuhiro Chiba, and at California Institute of Technology for Prof. Theodor Agapie, respectively, to earn the expertise of organic and inorganic synthesis. In 2018, he started his academic career as a specially appointed assistant professor in the group of Prof. Shinsuke Inagi. From 2020, he join the Atobe group at Yokohama National University as an Assistant Professor. His research interest is the electrosynthesis (small molecules and polymers) and electrocatalysis. In a meantime, he is a family man, working out in the gym, and searching for great shows in Netflix.
